Day at leisure in Grassington
Day 1 - Monday:
We travel to our hotel in Harrogate for our 4-night stay. Welcomed with tea/coffee on arrival, we have time to check in and freshen up before dinner.
DDay 2 - Tuesday:
After a leisurely morning, we visit the Wensleydale Creamery, situated in the market town of Hawes, in Wensleydale, in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park. We have access to the Creamery's viewing platform, as well as the museum and all important shop! This afternoon, we stay in Hawes for a sheepdog demonstration with Richard Fawcett, a local farmer and sheepdog handler.
B, DDay 3 - Wednesday:
We have the whole day at our disposal the scenic village of Grassington - the filming location of Darrowby in All Creatures Great and Small. In Grassington, we can see The Stripey Badger Bookshop, The Church, and even Skeldale House, where James lived and ran his veterinary practice.
B, DDay 4 - Thursday:
We begin the morning with a guided tour of Helmsley Walled Garden where we’re taken through the themed garden rooms ablaze with colour. Afterwards we travel to Thirsk where we spend time at leisure enjoying a nostalgic look around Thirsk and the World of James Herriot. Home of the famous vet, this is where James Herriot worked and wrote his books, from which several television and film adaptations have been made, including the 1975 film All Creatures Great and Small and the BBC television series of the same name.
B, DDay 5 - Friday:
Sadly, it’s time to head home.

The Cedar Court Hotel Harrogate is situated in a beautiful setting, in a quiet area of town, approximately 15 minutes walk from the Centre. The Cedar Court Hotel dates back to 1671 and was Harrogates first hotel. All 100 bedrooms are traditionally furnished and feature a TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. Public areas are open plan with a traditional style bar. All single rooms are double for sole occupancy.
