Beth Chatto Gardens

Beth Chatto Gardens is a beautiful outdoor space near Colchester. Covering 6 acres, these gardens have become world famous for their beauty and innovation, with planting led by Beth Chatto's mantra 'The right plant for the right place'. Original problem areas, from boggy ground, a gravelly car park, and bramble filled woodland, have been transformed by the use of plants suited to the conditions to produce a wonderful display of sustainable planting guided by an ethos centred around working alongside nature.

INFORMATION FROM BETH CHATTO GARDENS

Can you please make your customers aware that we do not accept cash anywhere onsite so if they wish to make purchases in the tearoom, shop or nursery they will need a debit or credit card.

Lunch: Our tearoom Chatto's serves teas, coffees, sweet and savoury pastries, soups, sandwiches, salads and cakes.

Picnicking - We regret that picnicking is not permitted in the gardens but we have a few picnic benches in a grass meadow adjacent to the car park area which your group is welcome to use.

Accessibility information

Full wheelchair and pushchair access to all areas of the Gardens, Nursery and Visitor areas. Please be aware that the main entrance to the Gardens is gravel. There is a ramp to the Water Gardens and the remainder of the Gardens are gently sloping lawn or earth and bark paths. On wet days, the earth paths can be muddy and unsuitable for mobility equipment. There are benches available throughout the Gardens.

Although mobility scooters and wheelchairs are very welcome within the Gardens Beth Chatto Gardens cannot currently offer any for customers to borrow.
