Day 1 Monday
Travel to Durham
We depart Kent and begin our journey North to Durham, our base for the next 4 nights.
Day 2 Tuesday
Beamish Museum
Today we step back in time at Beamish, where the past is brought vividly to life. Nestling in 300 acres of beautiful countryside, visit Pockerly, with its stunning manor house and railway, and take a tram ride through a real Edwardian market town with its painstakingly and lovingly rebuilt houses and shops. You can also visit Home Farm, wander around the Pit Village and enjoy a ride on an old carousel.
Day 3 Wednesday
The Bowes Museum
Today we enjoy a scenic drive through the Durham Dales, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, via Weardale through to Alston and via Teesdale to the market town of Barnard Castle, with its ever popular Wednesday Market.
After lunch, we visit the historic Bowes Museum, as spectacular French-style Chateau with ornate gardens, which is home to the exquisite Silver Swan.
Day 4 Thursday
At leisure in Durham.
Discover the captivating medieval city of Durham, the jewel in the crown of an extraordinary county and a wonderful place to explore with ancient winding streets packed with history, culture and stunning architecture, including the magnificent Norman Castle and Cathedral.
Day 5 Friday
Hometime
We check out of our hotel this morning and head back home, making suitable comfort stops on route.
